Wondering what’s the best song to wake up to? The verdict is in thanks to expert David M. Greenberg from University of Cambridge and City University of New York who’s teamed up with our favourite music source Spotify to discover and scientifically engineer the perfect playlist to get you out of bed and feeling fab.

Topping the list was Coldplay’s Viva La Vida with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ Downtown and Demi Lovato’s Confident following soon after. It’s proof that pop is queen, especially in the mornings.

Not really interested in bringing the Top 40 into the bedroom? A tonne of songs will work that keep these morning-music must-haves in mind:

  • A track that builds. Anything too heavy from the get-go is a no-go before noon.
  • A song that’s positivity plus. Grasp hold of any lingering motivation and step out of bed on the right side with a track that is upbeat and positive.
  • A solid beat. Songs that have a strong bass and drums 2 and 4 beat and a BPM of about 100-130 are the best picks.
