Pricey vs Priceline: Hair Oil

by Madeleine Borgersen

Hair oils are great for taming frizz, adding shine and smoothing out stressed hair. They all boast natural oils like argan, moroccan or manoi however even the best unfortunately side these natural beauties with cheaper to produce silicones. They will help protect your hair, but they won’t really restore the hair.

Pricey vs Priceline: Hair Oil

Saying that I prefer to treat hair oils as a styling product, something that will give me a sleek, smooth result from a blow-dry and smooth out any frizziness between washes.

These are my two favourite hair oils at both end of the spectrum!

Pricey: Kérastase Elixir Ultime Versatile Beautifying Oil 125ml – $53.24

The Kerastase is a god amongst mere men. It smells devine, is light weight so won’t turn you into a walking deep fryer and add’s definite shine and smoothness. Just what you want from a good hair oil!

It absorbs into the hair immediately and leaves it so soft and smelling delicious. Definitely my pick out of the higher end oils.

Priceline: Schwarzkopf Extra Care 6 Miracles Oil Essence 75.0 ml – $8.79

For the price the Schwarzkopf Extra Care truly is a miracle hair oil. Again it is lighter in weight compared to the original Moroccan Oil meaning it’s perfect for every day use and smells devine (I think it smells like chocolate bullets?)

The smoothness doesn’t last quite as long as the Kerastase but it is definitely the best oil out of this price point.

The Verdict:

Seeing as I have both I won’t be buying another hair oil until 2034 as they just last so long (which is great!). Saying that, they’re both fantastic oils. I personally am an investor, so I would be grabbing the Kerastase out of fear they’ll discontinue it or there will be a zombie apocolypse.

Given the Kerastase also lasts a lot longer and has an extra 50mL to the bottle I no doubt think it will last longer, not long enough to purchase the Schwarzkopf six times over, but something to make the price difference not so big!

If you’re new to hair oils and looking to test the waters first, hands down grab a bottle of the Schwarzkopf. It’s truly a fantastic contender and a lovely lightweight oil that you can add to your everyday routine!
