The moment I was introduced to gel eyeliner my world changed. No more fighting with liquid eyeliner, walking around like a panda bear that was involved in a brawl outside a shady pub.
Many brands do gel eyeliners, I personally love Bobbi Brown’s although I’ve heard great things about MAC’s too. As long as you make sure you close them up properly after every use they last forever also!
But how to apply gel eyeliner? It does take practice but it’s easy once you get the hang of it.
1. Line the base of your lid right near the lash line.
Use a thin eyeliner brush, e.g. MAC’s 209. I like to start from the outer corner and go into half way. Then go under the lid close to the water line to do from the inner corner back to meet the original line. This way the inner line is as thin as possible and you don’t end up with gaps between your lashes and the eyeliner.
2. Draw a diagonal stroke from the outer corner up.
It might look intense when you’re doing it with your eye closed but it neutralises out! Just go straight up and out at a -45 degree angle. Don’t worry if you’re a bit shaky, you can always clean it up with a cotton tip!
3. Join the top of this new diagonal line with the middle of your base line forming a triangle
Take the line down diagonally to meet approximately 1/3 along your base line.
4. Colour the gap in!
This is the fun part, your lines are done so you can just fill in the triangle you’ve formed with more liner.
Voila! All done! If you need to clean up some stray liner just soak a cotton tip in makeup remover and gently wipe it away. It’s best to do it in one motion rather than dabbing it to give it a cleaner finish.
