Skin School: Antioxidants

Antioxidants are your knight in shining armour. They protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals – molecules that form in your skin when you’re exposed to things like UV, alcohol and environmental stressors like pollution.

Antioxidants give electrons to unstable molecules, known as free radicals, making them then stable. By stabilising these free radicals, damage to your collagen and elastin is decreased and the effects of ageing is reduced.

Antioxidants come in a variety of products from sprays to serums; moisturisers to masks. Serums, of course, have one of the highest concentrations of ingredients so they’re a fantastic first point of call for protection. Apply the serum to clean, bare skin and follow up with a sunscreen to protect even more.

Antioxidants also work best in a team so consider opting for products that have a blend of antioxidant-rich ingredients for that one-two protection punch.
