Why can our skin become dull at the end of winter?
In winter it is common to focus heavily on hydrators and many of us tend to slather on rich treatment products to nourish and protect our skin from the harsh elements. This takes the emphasis off exfoliating and refining our complexion. The combination of the two means we can get a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of our skin which creates a dull, rough and lack lustre complexion.
Do we need to change our skincare routine with the start of a new season?
A complete skincare overhaul shouldn’t be needed as each new season approaches. However, many of us will find that little tweaks may be needed, depending on the climate you live in.
What does skin need more or less of when it’s warmer?
As the weather warms up stripping cold winds and artificial heating is no longer an issue for our skin, so the emphasis on richer more protective skincare can be reduced. Hydration is vital at all times of the year, however, certain skins may find they can reduce their more nourishing hydrators and use a light weight hydrator that is lower in fatty acids. Never skip the hydration though, a dehydrated or dry skin will accentuate the appearance of fine lines and premature ageing.
