The BookLook: Crazy Rich Asians

by Madeleine Borgersen

Crazy Rich Asians is Pride and Prejudice picked up in modern, disastrously wealthy Singapore. A hilarious satire of the millionaire island, the book will have you page-turning faster than this month’s issue of Vogue.

The BookLook: Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians is set on the narrative of Nick Young, heir to one of the oldest and wealthiest families in Singapore and ABC (American Born Chinese) Rachel Chu. The couple meets as regularly as any modern day couple, both working as professors at an established American university. When Nick invites Rachel to his home of Singapore for a close friend’s wedding their relationship becomes anything but normal.

Unknown to Rachel, Nick is one of the hottest bachelors of the moment and there are plenty of women ready to fight for him.

From reading through the detail of their crazy houses (of which they probably own at least 10), their wardrobe’s full of designer gowns that have never been worn or the do’s and don’ts of Singapore society Crazy Rich Asians is the comedic blend of Downton Abbey and Gossip Girl we’ve been waiting for.
