The BookLook: It by Alexa Chung

by Gemma Pearson

I found my copy of IT in the bookshop, under ‘self improvement’. Whether by accident or design, I embraced the prompt and asked myself – could this book make me a better person?

The BookLook: It by Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung needs little introduction; all tousled hair and a model stare. A marvellous career and a proud member of the self-named Mulberry handbag club. (I do wonder what she keeps in that lovely bag of hers. I imagine some cigarettes, maybe ballet shoes, Lucas’ pawpaw and some eyeliner. And maybe some more cigarettes. Anyway, this book won’t confirm my suspicions, but it will give you a glimpse into her lovely head).

Consider IT a stylish sashay through her thoughts from hair to heartache and everything in-between, with more than a passing mention of her influences and style crushes. The photos show us a merry mix of her nearest & dearest, the delightful doodles demonstrate whimsy and talent, whilst her dry wit is present throughout.

I can’t promise this is going to teach us anything new or lead to self improvement on a large scale, but that’s really not the point. This little light-hearted glimpse into Chung’s dreamy world is more than enough to give you 30 minutes of pure indulgence that can’t help but make you feel good.

Out now in paperback.
