The Queens of the Music World

by Madeleine Borgersen

You’re crazy if you don’t love a good girl band — even if it’s in the privacy of your own home when your partner/family/room mate has gone out to leave you in a Jerry Maguire state of bliss wondering what pair of socks will do your rendition justice.

Here’s our picks to fill up your lady love playlist!

The Queens of the Music World

This three piece has been confused with Madonna and Shania Twain in my household and I count that as a good thing. Anyone up for a cruisy, 80’s-esque album to learn lyric for lyric, dance move for dance move? This is the one!

2. First Aid Kit

This Swedish folk duo are one of my favourites. These girls are über talented and perfect for anyone after a more subdued tune.

3. Iggy Azalea

A Mullumbimby expat now living the Clueless life in Miami she’s great for anyone that thinks they were a rapper in another life. No. No one? Just me? Oh well!

4. Whitney Houston

I’ve always had a big appreciation for the voice that is Ms Houston however a recent Spotify adventure had me tuned in to her older tracks. She was so before her time, I couldn’t tell if it was a 30 year old Whitney track bursting out of my monitor or a new release by Beyonce. Definitely worth taking a trip back memory lane!

5. Josie and The Pussycats

No girl band list is complete without them. The peak of my highschool years was getting a hair cut like Josie — that failed quite quickly when I didn’t have any styling talent whatsoever. Don’t stop at just the album. The movie will be making a comeback with the hipster crowd in no time. I can feel it.

  1. I can’t get enough of Iggy right now, I’ve had her album for less than a week and it’s all I’ve been listening to.
